ジャスミンは、サンスクリット語のマリカーが語源。
日本語で素馨(そけい=白い香り)、中国語で茉莉花(モーリーフォワン)。
ペルシャ語やアラビア語のヤースミーンは女性の名前にもなるそうです。(そういえばディズニー映画『アラジン』のヒロインもジャスミン)
さらに「ジャスミン」の名の由来は、アラビア語で「yas min(絶望は愚か)」を意味するという俗説もあるとか。
